Can Pythium oligandrum actually get inside plant cells? It's a simple sounding question but it's the one that came up during Pherobio's visit to Biogama's event last week, and it ended up reshaping how the team understands this product.

One Question, One New Piece of Knowledge


The event included a lab visit, during which the team came across literature describing how Pythium oligandrum operates within the plant.

That prompted a direct question to Biogama's technical lead on-site: does Pythium oligandrum actually enter plant cells?

The answer: no. Instead, it moves and acts between cells.

That distinction — subtle as it sounds was a genuine update for everyone in the room, Pherobio included. Rather than penetrating cells directly, Pythium oligandrum operates through intercellular activity. It gave the group a clearer, more precise picture of how the product actually works.

Beyond the lab discussion, the event also included an on-site field visit, where the team walked through plots of sugar beet and hops with treated and untreated sections set side by side for comparison. Seeing the difference firsthand gave the team a more direct sense of how Pythium oligandrum performs on these crops both of which are relatively new territory in its application history, and the visit helped round out the team's understanding of where the product can be used.


Firsthand Experience from Around the World


The event also brought together attendees from multiple countries, who shared their own hands-on experience applying Pythium oligandrum in the field. Hearing how different countries and crop conditions shape its use gave the Pherobio team a broader view of the product's range of applications globally and useful reference points for expanding its use across more crops in the China market going forward.
